In anticipation of the March 1 release of a new retrospective The Best of Everything, a new previously unreleased and un-bootlegged song by Tom Petty & and the Heartbreakers was released this week called For Real. From listening to the lyrics, it sort of sounds like a manifesto on why musicians do what they do.
Can’t wait for the new retrospective. I still can’t believe he is gone.
I have a Tom Petty question for you- do you know of any CD collection that has his Girl On LSD on it? It was a b-side of a single back in the mid 90’s I believe.

I actually don’t know. Never seen it on any. I think it was a b side for something off of Wildflowers? I think there were plans for a reissue of it with all the extra songs on it before he died. Not sure what current plans are if any.

The first thing I have looked for- on all these recent anthologies etc- is – did they include it? I have the cassette version of the single- you are correct- it was the b-side to You Don’t Know How It Feels.

While it’s fair to say there are better songs Tom Petty has written, it surely is great to hear new music from him.
I’m also still a bit in disbelief he’s gone – a true class act of an artist!
