This song, from 1967, has become the centerpiece of our Thanksgiving playlist. In my house, we’ve been playing it on Thanksgiving day for years. It’s ostensibly about Thanksgiving but really it was conceived as a Viet Nam antiwar protest song.

I’ve always loved this song- I recently played it and I think it was the first time my wife heard it and she hated it for some reason- maybe because it is so long. I feel the need to play it a few times today.

A true classic and fantastic movie-like story-telling!
I heard the tune in its entirely a little while ago on Q104.3 while listening to that radio station’s annual countdown of the “Top 1,043 Classic Rock Songs of All Time,” as voted by their listeners.
Like most other stations, their regular rotation of songs is much smaller, so it’s a nice break from the usual.
