This song, from 1967, has become the centerpiece of our Thanksgiving playlist. In my house, we’ve been playing it on Thanksgiving day for years. It’s ostensibly about Thanksgiving but really it was conceived as a Viet Nam antiwar protest song.

I remember buying this album in 1992 for one of the other songs on it that I had heard on the radio and then being blown away by this song – one of those songs I could put on unlimited repeat and not get tired of. One of the YouTube comments for this song says “Bob Mould is Jesus, and anyone who doesn’t agree has cloth ears or hates music” – ok, kind of extreme but with this song I’m not going to argue very much.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone !!
Continuing to listen to Steve Earle discography to prep for next week’s concert! This one is another favorite one of mine. Off his comeback album of sorts, I Feel Alright (which may be my second favorite album of his after Exit 0). The thing that puts this song over the finish line for me (or the icing on the cake if you will) is the Springsteen Rosalita reference right towards end!
pretty cool song by the My Morning Jacket front man. I especially like the distorted guitar sound.
I’ll admit it. The name of this band got my attention, then the music.
The Wild Reeds are a alt country/folk female trio from Los Angeles. I really love their vocal harmonies – here’s one from their most recent EP New Ways to Die
This song has been covered many many times. Sometimes well, Eric Clapton and Warren Zevon to name two and sometimes not so well, Axl Rose’s screechy annoying version comes to mind.
Original wins hands-down for me
The name of this band was the first thing that caught my attention. This song is pretty catchy
I’ve been listening to a lot of Steve Earle lately in preparation for seeing him in a few weeks. I think of all of his songs this is my favorite – off his second album Exit 0
“I said no thanks Pete I’m just moving along.” !!!!!
Great barn burner of a song from a terrific band. Video gives only a small window into how great they are live.
