The actual end of summer is still a few weeks away but to me Labor Day has always felt like the end of summer and I’ve always associated this song with summer ending and fall starting.
It’s my second official day as a father-in-law, I’m dropping my youngest off at college and I’ll be driving home with my wife thru western Massachusetts, NY to my home so………
On the Day of my Daughter’s Wedding I dedicate this song to to my wife and a wish that in 29 years my daughter and son in law will feel the same way.
Some songs are instantly recognizable by a great opening riff. One of my all time favorites from one the first albums I ever owned.
These lads from Liverpool have been around for years and have had a lot of chart success in the UK, but this album seems to be a leap forward artistically. They also remind me a bit of an American band…….. “The Death Cab is strong in this one.”
Sometimes the thing I need the least in music is understated subtlety . Sometimes it just needs to be loud and hard . Who’s better at that than these guys?
Glen Hansard is a great singer from Ireland. Great lyricist and an underrated musician. The horns in this song are what got me.
The collaboration between Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris seemed to come out of nowhere but it produced a great album ( All the RoadRunning) and this terrific song, one of my favorite songs about marriage. We used this song in a video montage for my parent’s 50th Anniversary and with my daughter’s wedding this week, it felt right
