I’ve always had a rather odd relationship with Dave Matthews music. It seems whenever I like a song or an album, I find out that the critics or long time fans seem to hate that very song or album.So I’ll try again. Here’s one I really like from the new album.

Punk before there was punk.
Song of the Day 8/22/18 Greta Van Fleet “Flower Power”
This four man band from Michigan has only been in existence since 2017 but they sound like they’ve been doing this a lot longer. Classic rock and R&B influences jump out at you. Lead singer is almost channeling Robert Plant in this great song.
Song of the Day 7/20/18 The Hold Steady “The Weekenders”
The Hold Steady have been compared to the E Street Band. I’m not sure I see it but Craig Finn does have a way with words. Favorite line of this song— “ She said the theme of this party is the Industrial Age, and you came in dressed like a train wreck.”

Something gentle from one of my favorite albums for your Sunday morning.
Song of the Day 7/18/18 Langhorne Slim “Put it Together “ (Today ya get 2)
I like to call these songs ramshackle folk. It has the feel of a song that seems like it’s on the verge of falling apart but somehow it doesn’t. You may have heard the first in a tv commercial. Longhorn Slim is another local artist!

I really like artists who defy categorization. Just when you want to call her country or folk, Brandi Carlisle does this.

One of my all time favorite songs featuring one of the finest guitarists to ever play.
Song of the Day 8/15/18 Rebuilder “Le Grand Fromage”
Got a 20 minute dose of these guys when they opened for Frank Turner in a small club in PA 2 years ago.
