These lads from Liverpool have been around for years and have had a lot of chart success in the UK, but this album seems to be a leap forward artistically. They also remind me a bit of an American band…….. “The Death Cab is strong in this one.”

Sometimes the thing I need the least in music is understated subtlety . Sometimes it just needs to be loud and hard . Who’s better at that than these guys?
I’m betting you haven’t heard of this band (they have 50 followers on Spotify). But that’s the great thing about the Internet. Thanks to a review from fellow music blogger The Soul of a Clown I am loving this band and song. Reminds me of The Hold Steady with a dash of Green Day
Glen Hansard is a great singer from Ireland. Great lyricist and an underrated musician. The horns in this song are what got me.
The collaboration between Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris seemed to come out of nowhere but it produced a great album ( All the RoadRunning) and this terrific song, one of my favorite songs about marriage. We used this song in a video montage for my parent’s 50th Anniversary and with my daughter’s wedding this week, it felt right
Olafur Arnalds is an Icelandic composer and multi-instrumentalist. I love how this song starts very contemplative, but then progresses to a more upbeat tone, as if to say its fine to ponder and consider, but at some point you need to get out and do.
Lucy Dacus is from Richmond VA and start getting attention a few years ago with this song about trying to shed people’s conceptions of who you should be. Short, simple, but catchy as hell
I’ve always had a rather odd relationship with Dave Matthews music. It seems whenever I like a song or an album, I find out that the critics or long time fans seem to hate that very song or album. So I’ll try again. Here’s one I really like from the new album.
One of my favorite songs from this eclectic singer-songwriter.
I just recently finished re-watching Breaking Bad, one of the all time greatest series in TV history (in my humble opinion). This is the song that accompanies the last scene. Great use of music, and a great great song!
