Skinny Lister from England describe themselves as shanty punk. All I know is that this folk punk label mate of Frank Turner makes joyous high energy music that’s a kick to see live. This is the song that did it for me, off their 2015 album, Down on Deptford Broadway.
Love the vibe of this band. A little country with some southern rock, great harmonies and they can stretch out and jam when they want. Big Sky is a perfect example of that.
Its raining today in the DC/Baltimore area, so seems fitting to play this song. Frank Turner often covers this song when he plays in Baltimore, including this past June at the MECU Pavilion on the Baltimore waterfront, during an actual rainstorm!
One of the great things about Rivers Cuomo and Weezer is that they have mastered the art of creating that “ hook” that always grabs me. This song from 2017 is on my “play it loud with the windows down driving in the car on a summer day” playlist.
Amy Shark is an Australian indie pop artist whose debut album Love Monster came out last week. Just getting into the album, so far this is my favorite track. A song about being out there pursuing your dream but being isolated from home and family.
Released in 1981 this in my opinion was the last great song that Queen released. Bonus that it was a duet with David Bowie. I remember thinking at the time it was so different from everything else on the radio. So sad that neither Freddie Mercury or David Bowie are still with us.
First let me say I’m not a Motörhead hater, just never listened much. Then I stumbled on this David Bowie cover and I was skeptical but wow, this really works. This is from an entire album of covers and one of the last things they ever recorded.
George Ezra is a 25 year old (!) English songwriter who had some fame a few years back with the song Budapest. This past spring he put out his second album, Staying at Tamara’s, which raised his craft to an entirely new level. So many great songs on this album, hard to choose one. But Paradise is definitely a pleaser!
