A little acoustic guitar for a Sunday morning. Simple guitar line repeated over and over, but the sum is definitely more than its parts
Off his album of a few years back Sermon on the Rocks. I first saw him do this in concert acoustically a few months before the album was released. Catchy as hell – about being true to yourself despite the best efforts of others to change you.
Heard this song on NPR Music and loved it. Myers does the quiet – loud contrast style beautifully in this song about staying in a relationship even though you fear it will destroy you.
Jade Bird is a 20 year old British artist whose songs fit squarely in the Americana genre. This new song doesn’t quite fit that genre, but is great nonetheless.
New music from the legendary Richard Thompson – enough said!
Liz Brasher describes her kind of Southern music as “one that’s caught halfway between the garage, the church, the bar, and the bedroom.” That sounds about right. Love the guitar sound on this one.
Skinny Lister from England describe themselves as shanty punk. All I know is that this folk punk label mate of Frank Turner makes joyous high energy music that’s a kick to see live. This is the song that did it for me, off their 2015 album, Down on Deptford Broadway.
Its raining today in the DC/Baltimore area, so seems fitting to play this song. Frank Turner often covers this song when he plays in Baltimore, including this past June at the MECU Pavilion on the Baltimore waterfront, during an actual rainstorm!
