Some songs can be indelibly linked to a specific moment . For me, Vienna goes back to a Sunday morning when I was about 14. I was delivering news papers early on a mild fall Sunday morning and I could hear this song quietly coming from an open upstairs window as I dropped the newspaper on my neighbor’s front porch. Vienna will always be a Sunday morning song to me.

Song of the Day Sundays 9/16/18 Arvo Part – “Spiegel im spiegel”
Something quiet and contemplative for a cloudy Sunday morning. I absolutely love the expressiveness of the violin in this piece. The title translate to “Mirror in the Mirror.”
Song of the Day 9-15-18 The Lemon Twigs – “Small Victories”
Great pop song from this Long Island band off their recently released sophomore effort. I hear the Beatles, Crowded House, and XTC in this one.
Song of the Day 9/15/18 Joan Jett and the Blackhearts “Fresh Start”
I heard this song yesterday and all of a sudden it was like I was back in 11th grade again (minus the bad haircut and acne), sitting at a stop light, bobbing my my head and playing air guitar in the front seat while the kids in the minivan next to me looked at me like I was nuts. I’ve now listened to the song about 15 times in the last 24 hours.
Song of the Day 9/14/18 Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit “ White Man’s World”
in honor of their album of the year award by the Americana music awards……
Song of the Day 9-14-18 Wyldlife – “Contraband”
Something a little loud and noisy for the end of the week! Heard this on a compilation of current garage rock bands on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records. Enjoy!
Song of the Day TBT 9/13/18 Tom Tom Club – “Genius of Love”
Tom Tom Club was the dance/funk side project of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz from Talking Heads fame. While on hiatus from the Heads in 1980, they recorded this catchy number which appeared on their self titled 1981 album. Just shows the incredible talent that all of the members of Talking Heads had. This song also featured avant garde guitarist Adrian Belew
Song of the Day (TBT) 9/13/18 The Guess Who “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature”
For a period of time in high school, The Guess Who’s Greatest Hits lived in my cassette player. This one brings back memories
Song of the Day 9/12/18 Tom Petty “Room at the Top”
One of my favorite unappreciated songs from an underrated album.
Song of the Day 9/11/18 Alejandro Escovedo “ Always a Friend”
Great song by this San Antonio native whose music has skirted rock , punk , alt-country with Mexican and jazz influences
