Song of the Day 10/27/18 Lucero “What are You Willing to Lose?”
If it weren’t for Frank Turner’s “Be More Kind”, I think this year for me, musically would be the year of Lucero. I’ve been diving deep into their catalog and I love everything I’ve heard. This song in particular from their album, 1372 Overton Park is fantastic.I’ve played it no less than 10 times in the last 24 hours. I’m getting looks from other drivers because of the way I’m waving my arms around when this song is playing.
I love the horns and it’s got a hook big enough to boat a marlin with.

This song popped up on Spotify the other day and reminded me how much I love it. Perfect combination of amazing guitar work, pithy lyrics that paint a vivid story and a tragic ending. One of my favorites.

A song that mostly sounds like 3 chords and average lyrics somehow burrows it’s way into your consciousness. Then when you think you’ve got it understood, it hits you with a truly great guitar solo. I’ve loved this song for almost 40 years

This band from LA worked on Tom Petty’s “Hypnotic Eye” and have been touted by Steve Van Zandt. Pretty good resume for any band!

Song for a Sunday Morning 10/21/18 Zola Jesus – Wiseblood (Johnny Jewel Remix)
I’ve been tending towards instrumentals for these Sunday morning selections, but I heard this song this past week and I thought it was perfect. Zola Jesus is an American synth-pop artist. I love the chorus lyrics: “If it doesn’t make you wiser, Doesn’t make you stronger, Doesn’t make you live a little bit, What are you doing?”
