Well since its Friday… this song perfectly sums up the longing for the work week to be over so you can get to the weekend and have fun. The Easybeats were an Australian band who had their only real hit in the US with this song in 1966. Produced by the legendary producer Shel Talmy and later covered by David Bowie. Fun fact – guitarist George Young, who co-wrote this song with guitarist Harry Vanda, is the older brother of Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC.
This takes me right back to college in the early 80’s – this song was guaranteed to get the party going on a Friday night! Amazingly it wasn’t that big a hit at the time. They would have bigger hits with Talking in Your Sleep a few years later. But to me this is the perfect power pop gem.
Something quiet and contemplative for a cloudy Sunday morning. I absolutely love the expressiveness of the violin in this piece. The title translate to “Mirror in the Mirror.”
Something a little loud and noisy for the end of the week! Heard this on a compilation of current garage rock bands on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records. Enjoy!
Tom Tom Club was the dance/funk side project of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz from Talking Heads fame. While on hiatus from the Heads in 1980, they recorded this catchy number which appeared on their self titled 1981 album. Just shows the incredible talent that all of the members of Talking Heads had. This song also featured avant garde guitarist Adrian Belew
Terje Isungset is a Norwegian percussionist and composer who creates music using instruments he creates from ice. He evens performs concerts with these instruments (usually in Norway and Russia for obvious reasons!). Music definitely for quiet moods.
Recently I’ve been digging into Nuggets (get it?), the great compilation set of 60’s garage rock and psychedelic songs originally put together by Lenny Kaye. So much great stuff! Here’s one favorite. Obviously pretty song Beatles influence here.
Even though it’s Tuesday, it sure feels like Monday to me (given Labor Day holiday yesterday). And I’m not feeling it. At least not until after listening to this song.
